The Town of Irricana has received the resignation of Mayor Colleen MacLeod, effective September 14, 2026. Mayor MacLeod will be relocating out of province, making it necessary for her to step away from Town Council.
Mayor MacLeod was elected to Council in October 2025 and subsequently selected by Council to serve as Mayor. During her time in office, she represented Irricana around the Council table and at a variety of community events and functions, while engaging regularly with residents on issues and ideas important to the community.
In her resignation, Mayor MacLeod reflected on her time serving the community:
“Thank you for placing your trust in me, for the countless conversations, ideas, and concerns you shared with me along the way. Serving as Mayor has been one of the great privileges of my life.”

Town Council also thanked Mayor MacLeod for her contributions and public service:
“Colleen brought an informed voice and perspective to the Council table, along with a genuine interest in the community she served. We appreciate the time and energy she gave to the role and the contribution she made during her time on Council.

In her resignation, Mayor MacLeod also expressed confidence in Council’s ability to continue its work effectively and in the best interests of the community. The Town has begun the necessary governance and administrative transition, with Deputy Mayor Julie Sim carrying out the duties of Chief Elected Official in the immediate term. Council is expected to appoint a Mayor at its September 21 Regular Council Meeting.
Mayor MacLeod’s resignation also creates a vacancy on Irricana’s five-member Council, which will be filled through a by-election. Administration is reviewing the applicable election requirements and timelines and will bring additional information forward for Council’s consideration in the coming weeks. Once established, information regarding the by-election and opportunities for interested candidates will be shared with the community.
