Annual Wastewater Lagoon Release

The Town of Irricana will be conducting its annual, controlled release of treated effluent from the Town’s wastewater lagoons into Crossfield Creek starting next week. The release will be carried out in compliance with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) approvals and regulations and will be overseen by a licensed operator.

We are anticipating a release period of approximately three (3) weeks commencing the week of September 2, 2026. Exact discharge rates and day-to-day timings are subject to AEPA approval and may be adjusted to reflect creek conditions and regulatory requirements.

What to Expect

  • The discharge will consist of treated effluent meeting AEPA approval conditions.
  • Flow will be monitored and controlled to protect the receiving stream and downstream properties.
  • Water quality sampling and operational checks will be completed throughout the release period.
  • Minor, temporary changes in creek flow may be observed during the release.

Should AEPA require any significant change to the schedule or operating conditions, we will update affected landowners as appropriate.
