FortisAlberta will be replacing electricity meters in the Irricana area over the coming weeks as part of a system-wide program to ensure electricity meters continue to meet current safety and performance standards.
Existing meters are nearing the end of their service life and are being replaced as part of this program. There is no additional charge to customers for the meter replacement.
What Residents Can Expect
- A qualified technician will visit properties in the area within the next month.
- You do not need to be home, provided the electricity meter is accessible.
- If the meter cannot be accessed or the exchange cannot be completed, a notice will be left with information about the next steps.
- If you are home, the technician will knock on your door and explain the replacement process.
- Electricity service will be briefly interrupted while the meter is replaced, typically for less than 10 minutes.
- Once the new meter is installed and power is restored, the technician will confirm that it is operating properly.
- Residents may need to reset some electronic devices following the brief power interruption.
Who Is Completing the Work?
FortisAlberta is working with qualified contractors, Olameter Inc. and Rodan Energy Solutions, to complete the meter exchanges. These technicians are working under FortisAlberta’s oversight and follow the same safety, security and quality standards.
Technicians will:
- Carry identification;
- Wear appropriate uniforms and safety gear; and
- Never ask for payment or personal information.
