New Waste Collection Off to a Great Start… with a Few Surprises!
Our new waste collection service officially rolled out on Tuesday, July 7th, and we’re happy to report that the first pickup was largely a success! THANK YOU to every resident who jumped on board with this major transition; we know change isn’t always easy.
First days are always a bit like moving into a new house—you never quite know what you’ll find. Our new collection crew did a fantastic job getting to know the route, meeting residents, and making sure everyone’s garbage was collected.
Along the way, they also discovered one very important thing… Some garbage bins contained items that don’t belong in regular household waste.
Some interesting finds:
- Construction and demolition materials (such as lumber and drywall)
- Dirt, soil, rocks, and other heavy non-household materials
- A broken toilet… yikes!
In the interest of starting off on the right foot, the collection crew chose to pick up these items during the first collection, even though they don’t meet the regular collection guidelines. In fact, the truck ended up heavier than expected by the time it reached the landfill! This increased weight has real costs that end up affecting your utility bills over time.
Starting Next Collection…
Now that everyone has had a successful first pickup, regular collection rules will be in effect. The next regularly scheduled pickup is RECYCLING on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Please remember:
- 🚫 Construction and demolition materials are not accepted in household garbage carts.
- 🚫 Dirt, soil, gravel, concrete, bricks, rocks, and other heavy materials should not be placed in your garbage or recycling carts.
- ♻️ Recycling carts must only contain accepted recyclable materials. Loads containing non-recyclable items may be refused due to processing restrictions.
Following these guidelines helps protect collection equipment, keeps our operators safe, and ensures waste can be properly processed.
